Minimum\Peds Volume:0.4 mL

Causes for Rejection:Samples not separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Within 2 hours of collection, centrifuge and aliquot 0.3 mL, 0.12 mL minimum. Store at refrigerated temperature for up to 7 days, otherwise freeze.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. Alternatively, ship on dry ice.

Interpretive

Critical Range:
Reference Range:0-5 IU/L for healthy non-pregnant person. The Immulite 2000 HCG method is used. Results obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably.
Use:Useful in the diagnosis and management of testicular tumors. High levels may be found with choriocarcinoma, embryonal cell carcinoma, ectopic pregnancy, chorioadenoma destruens, and hydatidiform mole. The assay measures both intact hCG and free beta subunits.
