The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved or cleared this test; however FDA clearance or approval is not currently required for clinical use. The results are not intended to be used as the sole means for clinical diagnosis or patient management decisions.

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:7 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
Venipuncture is the method of choice for collection of blood lead specimens, because it is less subject to contamination from the skin surface than capillary collection.
Causes for Rejection:Serum. Specimens collected in tubes other than Royal Blue (K2EDTA or Na2EDTA) or tan (K2EDTA). Heparinized or clotted specimens. Capillary pediatric EDTA collection tubes.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not centrifuge, whole blood. Store at room temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship whole blood at room temperature.

Interpretive

Critical Range:Less than 19 years of age: Greater than 44.9 ug/dL; 19 years of age and older: Geater than 69.9 ug/dL
Reference Range:0.0-4.9 ug/dL
