Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:4 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.8 mL
Collection Instructions:Red (gel) containers are also acceptable. Gold gel containers are not acceptable due to a clot activator that interferes with this assay.
Causes for Rejection:Hemolyzed specimen. Collection in gold gel microtainer. Sample not separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Within 2 hours, centrifuge and aliquot 1 mL, 0.4 mL minimum for sex hormone binding globulin and 1 mL, 0.4 mL for total testosterone. Two aliquots are required. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
