Methodology:Thromboplastin clotting time correction of Factor 5 deficient plasma. Patient dilutions are compared to a known set of standard dilutions and a percentage is determined.

Turnaround Time:Turnaround time is 4-8 hours if received during lab hours (see Associated Link). With pre-notification, stats are done within 1 hr after receipt in the laboratory.
Special Instructions:This test is different from the Factor 5 Leiden Mutation PCR test.

Use:Factor 5 is a common pathway factor. A primary deficiency can result in a moderately severe bleeding disorder. Since Factor 5 is not a Vitamin K dependent factor, it is a good marker to determine if the liver's capacity to produce factors is significantly reduced.
