Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:1.2 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.7 mL
Patient Preparation:No isotopes administered 24 hours prior to specimen collection. Infants must be at least 24 hours old.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL, 0.25 mL minimum. Store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 4 days. Alternatively, ship on dry ice.

Interpretive

Reference Range:
Children Preterm infants may exceed 630 ng/dL; however it is uncommon to see levels reach 1000 ng/dL.
  Term infants, 0-28 days: <630 ng/dL. Levels fall from newborn (<630 ng/dL) to prepubertal gradually within 6 months.
Prepubertal males <110 ng/dL
Prepubertal females <100 ng/dL
Adult Males <220 ng/dL
Females Follicular: <80 ng/dL
Luteal: <285 ng/dL
Postmenopausal: <51 ng/dL
   
Use:Evaluation of suspected congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
