Test Includes:Platelet antibody identification. If platelet antibodies are detected, antibody identification is done at an additional charge.
Turnaround Time:Specimens are sent to reference laboratory Mon-Fri; results are reported within 3 days.
Special Instructions:If a UMMC-U patient is suspected to be refractory to platelet transfusions, contact the Blood Bank at 612-273-5367.
To expedite delivery of specimen to American Red Cross - samples will be shipped out by Blood Bank.

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:4 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:2.2 mL
Container:Red (no gel)


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 2 mL, 1 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature, within 48 hours.
Must include completed request form (or ARC Connect request) with sample. Do not send to Sepcimen Management. Blood Bank will coordinate delivery directly to American Red Cross.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Lab Sendouts  (American Red Cross, North Central Blood Services (ARC))


Interpretive

Reference Range:HLA Class 1 Antibody Screen: Negative; Platelet Antibody Screen: Negative
Use:Detect platelet reactive antibodies seen in neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, post-transfusion purpura, autoimmune thrombocytopenia, and with transfusion-associated platelet refractoriness.
