Optimal Volume:1 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.6 mL
Container:Red or gold (gel) (Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube, Green (lithium heparin, gel), Purple (EDTA), Red (no gel))
Collection Instructions:Serum is preferred. EDTA, heparinized or citrated plasma will be accepted. Serum is the only acceptable sample for neonates.
Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis, turbidity

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Within 2 hours of collection, centrifuge and aliquot 0.4 mL, 0.2 mL minimum.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated or frozen temperature.
Stability:After separation from cells: Up to 7 days refrigerated. Freeze aliquot sample if stored more than 7 days.
