Collection Instructions

Specimen:CSF or urine preferred; fluid
Optimal Volume:1 mL of CSF or 5 mL urine for each antigen requested
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL CSF for each antigen
Container:CSF Tubes (Plastic leakproof container, sterile)
Causes for Rejection:Highly viscous specimens. Specimens that coagulate on heating may be unsatisfactory for Neisseria meningitidis testing. Urine received in preservative.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:If both culture and antigen, store in refrigerator. If antigen only, store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:If both culture and antigen, ship at refrigerated temperature. If antigen only, ship on dry ice. Must arrive within 24 hours.
