Specimen:Blood, CSF, Synovial Fluid, Tissue
Optimal Volume:2 mL blood; 1 mL CSF or synovial fluid
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.2 mL blood; 0.5 mL CSF or synovial fluid
Container:Purple (EDTA) (Plastic leakproof container, sterile, Red (no gel), Red or gold (gel))
Causes for Rejection:Heparanized specimens

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Blood: Centrifuge and aliquot 1 mL, 0.5 mL minimum serum or plasma.
CSF or synovial fluid: Aliquot 1 mL; 0.5 mL into sterile container. 
Tissue: Skin punch biopsy must be snap frozen immediately.Specimen source is required. Store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:Plasma, serum, CSF or synovial fluid: 8 hours at room temperature; 72 hours refrigerated; 1 year frozen. Tissue is stable 1 year frozen.
