Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.2 mL
Container:Purple (EDTA) protect from light (Red (no gel) protect from light, Red or gold (gel))
Collection Instructions:Protect from light during collection.
Patient Preparation:12 hour fasting specimen preferred; patient should not consume alcohol for 1 day prior to collection.
Causes for Rejection:Hemolysis, specimen other than serum or EDTA plasma, specimen not protected from light.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge ASAP and aliquot 1 mL, 0.6 mL minimum. Each vitamin level requested requires a separate aliquot tube. Protect from light. Store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice. Protect from light.
