Sunquest Code:LYMMP
Epic Code:LAB6031Epic Name:Lymphocyte Mitogen Proliferation
Order Instructions:When ordered with Lymphocyte Antigen Proliferation, cancel LYMMP and LYMAGP tests and order LAM to combine.
Synonyms:Mitogen Stimulation
Methodology:Cell culture
Turnaround Time:Specimens are sent to reference laboratory Mon-Thur; results are reported in 9-10 days.

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved or cleared this test; however, FDA clearance or approval is not currently required for clinical use. The results are not intended to be used as the sole means for clinical diagnosis or patient management decisions.

Collection Instructions

Optimal Volume:10 mL and a 10 mL normal control from an unrelated donor
Minimum\Peds Volume:7 mL (adult) or 3 mL (pediatric) and a 7 mL normal control from an unrelated donor
Container:Green (sodium heparin, no gel) (Yellow (ACD, Solution A) tube available from laboratory)
Collection Instructions:Sample and contol must be collected Mon-Thur by noon. Specimen and control must be in the original tubes and arrive at the reference laboratory within 48 hours of collection time. Testing is performed Tue-Fri only.
Causes for Rejection:Refrigerated or frozen samples, or samples in transport longer than 48 hours. Sample collected in yellow (ACD Solution B).

Processing and Shipping

Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature. Must arrive within 48 hours. Ship to arrive Mon-Thur. Live lymphocytes required. Critical ambient; do not refrigerate or freeze.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Lab Sendouts  (ARUP)
Referral Lab number:96043 (LMP)

Reference Range:By report.
Use: Lymphocyte proliferation in response to the nonspecific mitogens phytohemagglutinin (PHA), concanavalin A (CON A), and pokeweed are determined by 3H-thymidine incorporation. Results are reported as the counts per minute (CPM) mitogen stimulated versus a control culture and a stimulation index (SI) which represents the ratio of mean CPM of the stimulated lymphocytes to the mean CPM of the unstimulated control.
