Patient Preparation:Interruption of enzyme substitution therapy recommended in order to avoid the possibility of cross-reaction with porcine enzymes.
Causes for Rejection:Stool in media or preservative. Swabs.

Specimen Processing:Freeze upon receipt (preferred).
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:Samples are stable for 1 week at room temperature or refrigerated; and 1 year frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:
Greater than 200 µg/g Normal
100-200 µg/g Moderate to mild exocrine pancreatic insufficiency
Less than 100 µg/g Severe exocrine pancreatic insufficiency
 Reference range does not apply for infants less than one month old.  
Use:Screen for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency
