Interpretive

Reference Range:Not detected. This assay has a plasma HIV-1 RNA quantification result range of 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL (1.3 to 7.0 log copies/mL). A 'Not Detected' result indicates that the assay was unable to detect HIV-1 RNA within the plasma specimen. A '<20 copies/mL (<1.3 log copies/mL)' result indicates that HIV-1 RNA is detected, but the level present is less than the lower quantification limit of the assay. A '>10,000,000 copies/mL (>7.0 log copies/mL)' result indicates that HIV-1 RNA is detected, but the level present is above the upper quantification limit of the assay.
Use:This assay is intended for use in conjunction with clinical presentation and other laboratory markers for disease prognosis and for use as an aid in assessing viral response to antiretroviral treatment as measured by changes in plasma HIV-1 RNA levels. This test should not be used as a donor screening test for HIV-1 or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HIV-1 infection.
