Special Instructions:Gadolinium contrast agents have been reported to inhibit ACE activity Therefore, CSF containing gadolinium-based contrast agents should not be submitted to the laboratory for evaluation.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:CSF
Optimal Volume:1 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL
Container:CSF Tubes (Plastic leakproof container, sterile)
Causes for Rejection:CSF containing gadolinium-based contrast agents. Hemolyzed or xanthochromic specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Separate from cells within 1 hour of collection if red blood cells are present. Transfer 1 mL; 0.5 mL minimum, into an ARUP transport tube. Store frozen.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:4 hours at room temperature; 1 week refrigerated;  6 months frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:0.0-2.5 U/L
Use:Support diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis. May be used to evaluate treatment response.
