Special Instructions:Please submit most recent viral load and test date, if available. This test may be unsuccessful if the plasma CMV DNA viral load is less than 1,500 CMV DNA copies per mL of plasma.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Within 8 hour of collection, centrifuge and aliquot 4 mL, 1.5 mL minimum. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Store in freezer.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Codons 457-630 of the UL97 gene and codons 393-1000 of the UL54 gene are sequenced. Mutations associated with resistance to ganciclovir, cidofovir and foscarnet are reported. Mutations in viral sub-populations below 20 percent of total may not be detected.
