Special Instructions:Patients on doxorubicin should wait 7 days after the last dose before testing for circulating tumor cells.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:20 mL in 2 CellSave tubes
Minimum\Peds Volume:15 mL in 2 CellSave tubes
Collection Instructions:Tubes cannot be combined; each tube must contain at least 7.5 mL. Do not collect specimens the day before a holiday.
Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis. Specimen drawn in a tube other than CellSave tube or submitted in an expired CallSave tube. Specimens greater than or equal to 96 hours old. Specimens submitted for reasons other than monitoring metastatic prostatic carcinoma.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Whole blood; do not process. Store at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Shipping Instructions:Ship overnight at room temperature. Specimen must be shipped immediately to ensure processing can be completed within 96 hour of collection. Send specimen Monday through Friday only and not the day before a holiday. Protect from temperature extremes.
