Container:Red or gold (gel) (Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube, Green (lithium heparin, gel), Green (sodium heparin, no gel), Purple (EDTA), Red (no gel))
Causes for Rejection:Hemolysis, lipemia, or room temperature specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot within 2 hours of collection 1 mL, 0.5 mL minimum. Store frozen.
Shipping Instructions:Ship frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Negative
Use:Diagnose hepatitis D infection in patient with documented acute or chronic hepatitis B and at risk for HDV infection. May want to order hepatitis B core antibody IgM to determine whether HDV co-infection or super-infection.
