Interpretive

Reference Range:

Less than 8.0 mIU/mL

Nonreactive

8.00 or greater to 11.99 mIU/mL

Indeterminate

12.0 mIU/mL or greater

Reactive

Assay does not differentiate between vaccines and natural infections.

For diagnostic purposes, results should be used in conjunction with patient history and other hepatitis markers for diagnosis of acute and chronic infection. A non-reactive test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to hepatitis B virus.

A reactive result does not exclude co-infection by another hepatitis virus.

Use:To determine clinical recovery or successful immunization from hepatitis B virus. Quantitative measurement of antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen.
