Specimen:Stool, unpreserved
Optimal Volume:5 g
Minimum\Peds Volume:1 g
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Causes for Rejection:Stool in media or preservative; stool in contact with diaper; stool not processed within 10 days of collection; stool not frozen within 3 days of collection; specimen transport temperature exceeds 30C.

Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:72 hours refrigerated; 10 days frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:

Less than to 50 mg/kg

Normal

50-120 mg/kg

Borderline elevated. Re-evaluate and recollect a new sample in 4-6 weeks

Greater than 120 mg/kg

Abnormal. Suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

 

 

Use:Aids in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis), and GI tract infections; and to differentiate IBD from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
