Interpretive

Reference Range:Negative for salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, sorbitol-negative E. coli, and Aeromonas and Plesiomonas. No Shiga toxins detected.
Use:Screen for bacterial pathogenic organisms in the stool; diagnose typhoid fever, enteric fever, bacillary dysentery, Salmonella infection, Campylobacter infection. Consider C. difficile testing as an alternative to routine microbiologic studies for inpatients who have test requests for routine enteric pathogens.
