Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL
Container:Purple (EDTA) on ICE
Collection Instructions:Collect sample in a pre-chilled (EDTA) tube on ice. Exact collection time should be written on the label to differentiate between timed samples.
Causes for Rejection:Sample not frozen when received. Sample not separated from cells and frozen within 2 hours of collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Keep specimen on ice. Centrifuge immediately (at refrigerated temperature if possible). Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection. Aliquot 0.5 mL, 0.15 mL minimum and freeze immediately. Store in Freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Endocrine  (UMMC-East Bank)


Interpretive

Reference Range:Up to 47 pg/mL; pediatric reference values are the same as those for adults.
Use:This test is used for special timed studies when multiple ACTH samples are collected in quick succession (Interventional Radiology).
