Sunquest Code:LFIBR
Epic Code:LAB6986Epic Name:Liver Fibrosis Echosens Fibrometer
Synonyms:Chronic Viral Hepatitis; FibroSure
Methodology:Nephelometry; Spectrophotometry/Electromagnetic mechanical clot detection; Enzymatic
Turnaround Time:Specimens are sent to reference laboratory Mon-Sat; results are reported within 2-6 days.
Special Instructions:Include an automated platelet count. Platelet count should be performed on the EDTA w hole blood sample at the client site within 3 days of submission for testing.

Collection Instructions

Optimal Volume:4 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.2 mL
Container:Red or gold (gel) AND Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube (Red (no gel) AND Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube)
Collection Instructions:Testing requires BOTH serum and citrated plasma samples, as well as an automated platelet count. Collect 6 mL; 2.6 mL minimum in a red or gold (gel) or red (no gel) AND 2.7 mL (in 3 mL tube) in a Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% tube - fill to fill line on tube. If a platelet count has not been performed in the last 3 days, draw a purple (EDTA) tube and add to the existing order.
Causes for Rejection:Hemolyzed specimens. All required specimens not received. No platelet count received.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 3 mL, 1.2 mL minimum serum AND 1 mL, 0.5 mL minimum platelet-poor citrated plasma. See Associated Links for processing instructions for platelet-poor plasma. Keep aliquots together and store frozen.
Shipping Instructions:Ship samples together on dry ice. Include automated platelet count with aliquot containers.
Stability:Stability: Serum - 8 hours at room temperature; 2 weeks frozen. Platelet-poor citrated plasma - 24 hours at room temperature; 2 weeks frozen.
