Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not send in the original co ntainer. Aliquot 1 mL, 0.5 mL minimum (0.8 mL CSF) into a standard transport tube. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:Stability: 2 weeks at room temperature or refrigerated; indefinitely frozen.

Interpretive

Limitations:Heterophile antibodies and rheumatoid factor can cause positive interference. Cross reactions due to closely related antigenic epitopes are seen in patients with histoplasmosis, paracoccidiodomycosis, and pencilliosis. Rare cross reactions have been seen in patients with aspergillosis and cryptococcosis.
Use:To aid in the diagnosis of disseminated or acute pulmonary blastomycosis.
