Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine or CSF
Optimal Volume:5 mL urine or 1 mL CSF
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL (pediatric only). Does not permit repeat analysis.
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile (Sterile tube)
Causes for Rejection:Samples not submitted at the same time as a serum sample.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not centrifuge. Aliquot 5 mL urine or 1 mL CSF. Store in refrigerator
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:Send sample with concurrent serum sample. See Special Instructions.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Lab Sendouts  (Minnesota Department of Health)


Use:Physicians need to contact the MDH to see if their patients qualify for testing. Call MDH 651-201-5414 and ask for Vector Vourne Epidemiology to assess if testing is appropriate.
