Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:10 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:5 mL
Container:Purple (EDTA) (Yellow (ACD, Solution A) tube available from laboratory)
Causes for Rejection:Frozen specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature to arrive within 72 hours of collection. Alternatively ship at refrigerated tmperature to arrive within 7 days of collection. Samples are not received on holidays. Include a signed requisition form and patient insurance information with the sample.
Stability:72 hours at room temperature; 7 days refrigerated.

Interpretive

Reference Range:No mutation detected.
Limitations:Transfusion patients: Wait at least 2 weeks after a packed cell.platelet transfusion, and at least 4 weeks after a whole blood transfusion prior to blood draw for testing.
Chemotherapy patients: DNA quality may be affected if patient has received chemotherapy within the last 120 days. Clients will be contacted to provide additional specimen if DNA quality is insufficient.
Use:Analysis of a specific genes or gene panel that identifies inherited risks to diagnose, treat and manage patient's cancer risks.
