Turnaround Time:Performed 24 hours/day. Preliminary reports are issued at 24 hours. Care  provider is contacted when culture is positive; negative results are reported within 6 days.

Aerobic and anaerobic culture bottles are always drawn together from each collection site for each collection. Pediatric requests for anaerobic bottle collection should be notated by putting an additional comment in EPIC.

Optimal Volume:16-20 mL per set, with 5 mL minimum per bottle
Minimum\Peds Volume:Pediatric: 2-4 mL; 1 mL minimum
Container:Bac T Alert Aerobic (Bac T Alert Peds Aerobic, Bac T Alert Anaerobic)

Specimen Processing:Store ar toom temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature. Must arrive within 24 hours.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Microbiology  (Fairview Range - FRMC)


Interpretive

Critical Range:Any bacterial isolate should be considered significant and evaluated in relation to patient's clinical state.
Reference Range:No growth.
Use:Isolate and identify potentially pathogenic organisms causing bacteremia or endocarditis.
