Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, random or timed collection (2 to 24 hour)
Optimal Volume:Submit entire collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:For timed collection: Mix collection well before aliquot is taken. Aliquot 20 mL, 10 mL minimum. For random collection: Submit entire collection. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Urine normally contains trace amounts of albumin, alpha and beta globulins and gamma globulin.
Use:Qualitative identification of monoclonal gammopathies or free light chain globulins (Bence Jones proteins) in urine.
