Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, 24 hour or random collection
Optimal Volume:Submit entire collection; analysis requires 1 mL
Container:3 L plastic jug
[Alternate Containers: Plastic leakproof container, sterile]
Collection Instructions:For 24 hour specimens, refrigerate during collection.
Causes for Rejection:Specimens not refrigerated during collection, specimens not frozen immediately. Room temperature specimens.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Mix collection well before aliquot is taken. Aliquot 4 mL, 1 mL minimum. Freeze immediately. CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Record total volume and collection time interval on transport tube.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:6 hours at refrigerated temperature; 6 months frozen.

Use:Aid in evaluation of patient with allergic signs and symptoms, such as anaphylaxis. May assist when diagnosing and monitoring mast-cell activation disorders or when evaluating histamine production over a longer time frame.
