Test Includes:Light microscopic evaluation; imprints, immunophenotyping, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, etc, may be ordered by the pathologist when indicated and performed by the appropriate laboratory at additional charge.
Turnaround Time:Performed Mon-Fri, 0800-1700; final results are reported within 1-2 days. Special Instructions:Provide clinical history and exact location, duration and description of lesion on request form. Imprint smears, immunophenotyping or other procedures requiring fresh tissue will be ordered by pathologist.

Specimen:Fresh lymph node tissue
Optimal Volume:Entire biopsy/resection of lymph node(s).
Container:Container, Tissue, sterile
Collection Instructions:
If the patient has or is suspected to have a lymphoid disorder, keep the specimen fresh and reference "Lymphoma workup surgical pathology tissue":
If there is no suspicion of a lymphoid disorder and no frozen section is requested, the specimen can be placed in formalin.
Submit whole intact lymph node with capsule in sterile container; deliver to Surgical Pathology immediately. Discuss with the Surgical Pathology lab if a frozen section or lymphoma workup is requested (if a lymphoma work up is requested, please reference "Lymphoma workup surgical pathology tissue").

Specimen Processing:Do not store fresh tissue. Store fixed tissue at room temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship fresh tissue soaked in sterile saline-soaked gauze at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 2 hours.
Ship fixed tissue at room temperature.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Interpretive report.
Use:Metastatic tumor, or infectious processes.
