Causes for Rejection:Bacterially contaminanted, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic or turbid specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Aliquot 0.5 mL, 0.1 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator.

Negative - No clinically significant amount of M. pneumoniae antibody detected.

Low positive - M. pneumoniae specific IgM presumptively detected. Collection of a follow-up sample in 1-2 weeks is recommended to assure reactivity.

 

0.96 or greater

Positive - Highly significant amount of M. pneumoniae specific IgM antibody detected.  However, low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for more than 12 months post-infection.
