Alternatively, transfer conjunctival scrapings (using fine sterile spatula) into a viral transport media container. · Feces: Transfer 1 mL, 0.5 mL minimum into a sterile, leakproof container. · Swabs: Dacron polyester swabs or rayon tipped swabs are recommended. Place in 3 mL of viral transport media. Indicate specimen source on container. · Tissue or lesions: Use a fresh set of sterile instruments for each tissue. Place in 3 mL viral transport media (preferred). Alternately, place each in separate sterile, leakproof container. · Urine/body fluids or CSF: Transfer 3 mL; 0.5 mL minimum of specimen into a sterile, leakproof container.
