Some diurnal variation is observed, so a morning, fasting sample is preferred. Approximately half of serum calcium is bound to proteins; therefore, posture will produce variation in results.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 1.25 mL, 0.2 mL minimum. Refrigerate immediately and maintain anaerobically if sample will not be tested within 4 hours.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:Roche: 7 days at room temperature; 3 weeks refrigerated; 8 months frozen.
