Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood (arterial)
Optimal Volume:1 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL (3 mL syringe); 0.2 mL (tuberculin syringe); 0.1 mL (capillary tube)
Container:Dry heparin syringe
Collection Instructions:Refer to Blood Gas with Saturation for collection information. All samples at room temperature must be analyzed within 30 minutes of collection. If unable to analyze within 30 minutes, store on ice for up to 2 hours.
Causes for Rejection:Specimen with air bubbles or clots; gross lipemia; presence of >1% sulfhemoglobin; specimen not received within 2 hours.

Stability:30 minutes at room temperature; 2 hours on ice.
