Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2.7 mL (in 3 mL tube) - filled to fill line on the tube.
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.8 mL (in 2 mL tube) - filled to fill line on the tube.
Container:Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube

Causes for Rejection:Underfilled tubes, nonfrozen or hemolyzed specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge the specimen at 1700 x g for 15 minutes (or at a speed and time required to consistently produce platelet-poor plasma - platelet count less than 10,000/uL). Aliquot within 4 hours of collection 1 mL; 0.5 mL minimum of platelet-poor plasma. Store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship frozen.
Stability:Frozen at -20ºC for 3 months; at -70ºC for 6 months

Use:Alpha-2 Antiplasmin is a specific inhibitor of Plasmin. A deficiency may result in a bleeding tendency. Homozygous deficiency may cause severe bleeding. Elevated levels may cause thrombosis.
