Use: | Fibrinogen abnormalities can be either quantitative (hypofibrinogenemia), qualitative (dysfibrinogenemia) or both. Patients can exhibit bleeding tendencies (25% of cases), pregnancy loss, thrombotic complications (20% of cases), difficulties in wound healing, or no symptoms (53% of cases). The fibrinogen antigen will detect the quantity of the molecule only. The Clauss Fibrinogen assay will detect the level of fibrinogen activity. A discrepancy between the two tests is indicative of dysfibrinogenemia. Therefore, the Fibrinogen Antigen is usually assayed if the Clauss Fibrinogen is low. |
