Collection Instructions: | Trough level is preferred; collect immediately prior to dose. Optimal sampling time for a peak level after oral dosage is 1-2 hours for fast release preparation and 4-6 hours post dose for slow release preparation. Optimal re-sampling time after change in dosage is 24-48 hours. Optimal sampling time for intravenous infusion is prior to infusion, 30 minutes after completion of loading dose, 4-6 hours after beginning therapy, 12-18 hours after beginning therapy and then repeat as necessary to evaluate therapy. |
Patient Preparation: | Intake of caffeine should be avoided because caffeine is metabolized to theophylline. |
