Collection Instructions

Specimen:Throat Swab
Container:CoPan ESwab with larger swab

Collection Instructions:
Depress tongue and rub swab vigorously over each tonsillar area and posterior pharynx. Any exudate should be touched, and care should be taken to avoid tongue and uvula.

Collect using flocked swab provided in the ESwab kit. Insert swab to the bottom of the tube and break the applicator shaft at the pink breakpoint indication line. Screw the cap on tightly and transport to the laboratory.

Clinics Only (except CSC, Oxboro and Maple Grove): Collect one puritan sterile rayon tipped swab and one ESwab. If the rapid strep is negative, the ESwab will be sent to the Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Lab for confirmatory testing.

If sending via PTS, the specimen must be placed in a lab specimen bag with an absorbent pad and then placed into another lab specimen bag.
