Causes for Rejection:Room temperature or refrigerated specimens. Contaminated or heat-inactivated specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot within 2 hours of collection, 1 mL, 0.4 mL minimum. CRITICAL FROZEN.  Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Freeze within 30 minutes.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:After separation from cells: 30 minutes at room temperature; 1 year frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:12 pg/mL or less
Limitations:Cytokine levels may demonstrate diurnal variation. For longitudinal comparison, it is recommended that cytokine levels be determined at the same time of day.
Use:Results are used to understand the pathophysiology of immune, infectious or inflammatory disorders, or may be used for research purposes.
