Special Instructions:The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) accepts specimens (by arrangement only) for animal toxicity tests and cultures. Physician must consult with the Department of Epidemiology at MDH (651-201-5414) to provide clinical data and find out proper specimen type.

Optimal Volume:Specimen types usually consist of 10 mL blood in red (plain, no gel) tube, 50-81 g stool, intestinal or rectal swab for toxin and culture
Minimum\Peds Volume:6 mL blood in red (plain, no gel) tube; 25 g stool or intestinal; or rectal swab for toxin and culture
Container:Sterile tube, Red (no gel)
Collection Instructions:

Blood

6-10 mL in red (no gel)

Stool

25-50 grams

Vomit or gastric content

20 mL in an anaerobic transport system

Rectal swabs are acceptable for toxin and culture in infants
