Collection Instructions: | Recommend collecting 2 plain red tubes. One tube may not yield sufficient serum volume. Place in warmed hot pack and deliver to laboratory immediately. |
Causes for Rejection: | Not maintained at 37°C prior to processing, gross hemolysis. Sample has been frozen. Less than 3 mL of serum received. Collected in a gel tube. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | Incubate at 37°C for one hour. Centrifuge at 37°C if possible. Transfer serum to 15 mL conical plastic tube and centrifuge again, using 37°C if possible, to remove unseen RBCs. Aliquot 6 mL, 3 mL minimum into a second 15 mL conical plastic tube. Store in refrigerator. |
