Collection Instructions
| Specimen: | Blood |
| Optimal Volume: | Two 3 mL tubes, each containing 2.7 mL blood; each filled to fill line on tube. |
| Minimum\Peds Volume: | One 3 mL tube, each containing 2.7 mL blood; each filled to fill line on tube. |
| Container: | Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube |
| Collection Instructions: | Deliver to laboratory ASAP; sample must be processed within 2 hours of collection. See link to Specimen Collection and Processing for Coagulation Specimens. |
| Causes for Rejection: | Underfilled tubes. Greiner tubes are not acceptable. |
Processing and Shipping
| Specimen Processing: | The specimen must be processed within 2 hours of collection. Centrifuge for 15 minutes at 1500-2000 rcf/G-force, remove clear, lipid-free plasma, aliquot small volumes (0.3-0.5 mL) into separate labeled polypropylene tubes and immediately place on dry ice or in -70C freezer. |
