Test Includes:Microscopic exam of thick and thin peripheral blood smears, lymph node aspirates, CSF, chancre aspirates.
Turnaround Time:Performed daily, 0730-1530. Results are reported within 1-2 days. Contact the IDDL Laboratory and Medical Director for testing at other times.
Special Instructions:

If possible, notify the laboratory in advance. Indicate clinical and travel history on request form:

·          Specify parasite suspected.

·          Provide patient’s travel history.

·          Indicate whether the patient has been previously diagnosed, and if so what parasites were identified and approximate date.

·          Provide a brief description of symptoms.

Specimen:Thick and thin blood smears prepared as for malaria, smears of lymph node aspirates or chancre aspirates, and CSF.

Collection Instructions:Minimum three thick and three thin blood smears, 0.5 mL CSF.
