Specimen:Urine, 24 hour or random
Optimal Volume:Submit entire 24 hour collection
Container:3 L plastic jug
Alternate Containers: Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Collection Instructions:Refrigerate during collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Mix collection well before aliquot is taken. Adjust pH to less than or equal to 2 by adding 6M HCl. Aliquot 4 mL. Store in refrigerator. Record total volume, collection time interval and pH on transport vial and request form.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:8 hours at room temperature; 2 weeks refrigerated; 1 month frozen.

Reference Range:Citric Acid Urine: 18 years and older: 320-1240 mg/24 hours. Reference range for patients under 18 years of age is not provided by the reference laboratory.
