Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, 24 hour or random
Optimal Volume:Submit entire 24 hour collection
Container:3 L plastic jug
[Alternate Containers: Plastic leakproof container, sterile]
Collection Instructions:Refrigerate during collection.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Mix collection well before aliquot is taken. Aliquot 4 mL into a sulfamic acid aliquot tube (available from ARUP Connect). Store in refrigerator. Record total volume, collection time interval on transport vial and request form.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:8 hours at room temperature; 1 week refrigerated; indefinitely frozen.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Citric Acid Urine: 18 years and older: 320-1240 mg/24 hours. Reference range for patients under 18 years of age is not provided by the reference laboratory.
