Causes for Rejection:Tissue, sputum, bronchial brushings, stool FNA, biopsy, tracheal or bone marrow aspirate, samples in transport media, fixative or isolator tubes. Samples too viscous to pipet.

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 2 mL, 1.2 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator.

Interpretive

Reference Range:None detected
Limitations:Heterophile antibodies and rheumatoid factor can cause positive interference. Cross reactions due to closely related antigenic epitopes are seen in patients with histoplasmosis, paracoccidiodomycosis, and pencilliosis. Rare cross reactions have been seen in patients with aspergillosis and cryptococcosis.
Use:Aid in the diagnosis of disseminated or acute pulmonary blastomycosis.
