Collection Instructions

Optimal Volume:0.1 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.06 mL
Container:Capillary (lithium heparin) gas tube
Collection Instructions:Deliver to labortory immediately; if received within 30 minutes, ice is not required. The puncture should be deep enough to allow a free flow of blood. Collect into heparinized capillary tube, which is free of air bubbles, filled as much as possible, and capped on both ends.

Specimen Processing:Do not store.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on wet ice to arrive within 2 hours.

Stability:Whole blood potassium is stable at room temperature for 2 hours. Whole blood potassium is stable on ice/gel packs for 30 minutes.
