Venous Blood Gas with Oxyhemoglobin

Sunquest Code:BGVOB
Epic Code:LAB3323Epic Name:BL Gas Venous and O2HB Panel
Order Instructions:Use test code for arterial (BGAOB), venous (BGVOB), capillary (BGCOB), or type unknown (BGBOB). No reference ranges print with BGBOB. Order ELS (ECMO) samples as BGEV (VEN) or BGEA (ART).
Synonyms:VBG; Venous Blood Gas
Methodology:Specific electrodes (pH, pCO2, pO2); spectrophotometric analysis of hemolysate. % OxyHb = cOxyHb/ctHb; %O2Sat = cOxyHb/(ctHb -[cCOHb + cMetHb])
Test Includes:pH, pCO2, pO2, derived HCO3, oxyhemoglobin
Turnaround Time:Performed and reported 24 hours/day.
Special Instructions:UMMC and FNMC: Whole blood sodium, potassium, chloride, CO2, ionized calcium, lactate and glucose may be requested on this specimen. Provide FIO2 on request form. Whole blood potassium is stable at room temperature for 2 hours. Whole blood potassium is stable on ice/gel packs for 30 minutes.

Collection Instructions

Optimal Volume:1 mL
