Causes for Rejection:Grossly hemolyzed and highly lipemic samples. Samples not separated form cells within 2 hours of collection.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Within 2 hours centrifuge and aliquot 0.5 mL, 0.2 mL minimum. Store in freezer.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:After separation from cells: 2 days refrigerated; indefinitely frozen.

Reference Range:90-200 mg/dL
Use:Detection of hereditary decreases in production. Order when serum alpha1 globulin is low. Heterozygous patients are commonly about 60% of normal. Homozygous recessive patients exhibit levels about 10% of normal.
