Special Instructions:A Memorial Blood Center request form must accompany each sample. See Associated Links. To expedite delivery of the specimen at UMMC, send to Blood Banks; do not send to Sendouts, FRH and FSH use a courier to send the specimen directly to MBC.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:Whole Blood
Optimal Volume:10 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:2.2 mL
Container:Purple (EDTA)
Alternate Containers: Red (no gel)
Causes for Rejection:Specimens more than 48 hours old.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process. Store in refrigerator.
UMMC East and West send tube directly to blood bank.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. Must arrive within 48 hours of collection.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Lab Sendouts  (Memorial Blood Center)


Interpretive

Reference Range:Number of incompatible units per number crossmatched.
Use:Detects patient platelet antibodies against selected apheresis platelets.
