Collection Instructions: | Specimens should be free of air bubbles. If collecting in green (heparin) tube, do not remove stopper. |
Causes for Rejection: | Whole blood specimen not received in laboratory within 4 hours of collection. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | Whole blood. Do not process. Do not store. Maintain anaerobically and analyze within 4 hours. If specimen has been exposed to air, analyze within 1 hour if pH is 7.35-7.45; otherwise recollect. |
Stability: | Whole blood samples are stable for 30 minutes at room temperature, or 60 minutes on ice if maintained anaerobically. |

Use: | Monitor the circuit ionized calcium of patients anticoagulated with citrate. |
