Test Includes:Relative frequency (%) and absolute value of the white blood cells. Test may include manual leukocyte differential, RBC morphology and/or PLT evaluation if reflex criteria is met.
Turnaround Time:Performed and reported 24 hours/day.
Special Instructions:A WBC must be ordered with every differential.


Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2-3 mL EDTA tube or 0.5 mL in an EDTA microtainer (do not fill more than 0.5 mL)
Minimum\Peds Volume:1.0 mL EDTA tube or 0.3 mL in an EDTA microtainer
Container:Purple (EDTA)
Collection Instructions:Immediately mix specimen 10 times by gentle inversion.
Causes for Rejection:Clotted, frozen, or centrifuged specimens.
Additionally, certain parameter(s) may also be rejected due to platelet clumping, fibrin strands, cold agglutinins, hemolysis, icterus, and/or lipemia.

Specimen Processing:Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. 
Stability:24 hours room temperature; 48 hours refrigerated; do not freeze. 
If more than 24 hours is required for transport, 2 unstained whole blood smears must accompany whole blood EDTA specimen.
